WKU Men’s Golf Stays Home

Starting Sunday and lasting into Tuesday, the Western Kentucky Men’s Golf team will be hosting a tournament in Bowling Green.
WKU is hosting the WKU/Kenny Perry Invitational at The Club at Olde Stone. The 54-hole tourney starts Sunday at 9am with staggered tee times for the opening round of play.
“We are very excited to be hosting the WKU/Kenny Perry Invitational this weekend,” said head coach Phillip Hatchett. “We are very lucky to have an elite course in Bowling Green like The Club at Olde Stone that will provide a great challenge to the 12 teams participating in the event. We have attracted some outstanding teams from around the region and are look forward to hosting them here in Bowling Green this weekend for our inaugural event.”
The noted PGA veteran is a former WKU linkster and he was a teammate of the head man.
“Kenny Perry has meant so much to our program,” said Hatchett. “He has put together an outstanding professional career, including being able to win the Ryder Cup here in his home state. We hope the success of this tournament is a reflection of the success that Kenny has had on the course. We are honored that he was willing to put his name on our home golf tournament. The success that Kenny has had over the years is what each of our golfers is striving to achieve.”
Perry was a WKU letterwinner from 1979-1982. He turned pro in 1982 and during his noted career, he has tallied 14 PGA Tour wins and over 30 top three finishes and over 100 top ten finishes. His career earnings top $31 million. His career tournament victories include the 1991 Memorial Tournament, 1994 New England Classic, 1995 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, 2001 Buick Open, 2003 Bank of America Colonial, the 2003 Memorial Tournament, 2003 Greater Milwaukee Open, 2005 Bay Hill Invitational Presented by MasterCard, 2005 Bank of America Colonial, the 2008 Memorial Tournament presented by Morgan Stanley, 2008 Buick Open, 2008 John Deere Classic, 2009 FBR Open and 2009 Travelers Championship.
The WKU/Kenny Perry Invitational marks the third of five fall tournaments for the WKU Men’s Golf team.
Sophomore Cameron Beal from Bowling Green owns the Hilltoppers’ best finish of the 2012-2013 golf year with a third place finish at the Marshall Invite. He had a second career best 66. He also leads the team with a stroke average of 71.67 per round this season.
