Three Football Colonels Named Preseason All-Americans | EKU | eastern

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University seniors Aaron AdamsMatt Denham and Patrick Ford were named to The Sports Network Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Preseason All-America team Monday.

Adams, a 6-5, 295-pound offensive tackle, was one of just two Ohio Valley Conference players to be recognized as a preseason first team All-America selection. The native of Lake Worth, Fla., started all 12 games at right tackle last season and helped EKU rush for more than 200 yards in six contests. A 2011 first team All-OVC pick, Adams also earned the team’s Offensive Colonel Core Value award following his junior season.

Denham, hailing from Rineyville, Ky., burst onto the scene as a junior and rushed for 1,570 yards, which was the highest total by a Colonel since 1991. He averaged 184.5 yards rushing per game in his eight starts in 2011. The 5-11, 181-pound running back was named to The Sports Network’s second team preseason All-America list.

Ford, who is entering his third year as a starter on the offensive line, was tabbed a third team preseason All-American. Two years ago, Ford lined up at right guard for the Colonels. The native of Richmond, Ky., then moved to left tackle as a junior. The 6-6, 305-pound senior was part of an offensive line unit that led the OVC in rushing attempts (530) last fall.

The Sports Network FCS Preseason All-America Team consists of 93 players over three teams. The Big Sky and CAA Football led all conferences with 15 selections each from nine member schools. Meanwhile, seven OVC football players were honored by The Sports Network.
