Hopkinsville's Casey Castile Earns Honors for Racers Softball

Murray State Softball freshman Casey Castile earned All-Mideast Region Second Team honors this week by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Castile, from Hopkinsville, Ky., burst on the scene for the Racers this spring and ended up being named the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year and also earned All-OVC First Team honors.

She led the Racers with a .337 batting average and also topped the team with 12 home runs and 46 RBI. Her .613 slugging percentage was also tops on the team. Starting all 55 games in centerfield for MSU, Castile was also successful in stealing 22-of-23 attempts. She was a big part of the Racers leading the league in team batting average at .337.

Castile helped the Racers to their most successful season in their third season when MSU was 34-21 and finished third in the OVC with a 19-11 mark. MSU advanced to the final three teams of last week’s OVC Championship for the first time before being eliminated.

Castile follows Jenna Bradley and Lauren Buch who were named to the NFCA All-Mideast Region Team in 2011.

The NFCA named teams from 10 regions totaling 263 players representing 129 different institutions.
