Murray High falls in All-A opener in nine innings to Community Christian, 5-2

John Loller was in normal form last night as he gave up two runs through eight innings, while striking out 13 batters and walking only three.

The Murray offense was having as much trouble with the opposing pitcher, as they only managed the two runs.  The first came when Austin Adams grounded out to shortstop, but brought around Sawyer Lawson for the opening run in the first frame.

The Tigers got on the board again in the fifth when Carver Lawson crossed the plate in the bottom of the fifth, to put Murray up 2-0.

Seth English lined a double to the outfield to score Mathew Moore in the top of the sixth and cut the Tiger lead in half, and in the seventh Loller hurled a wild pitch at the plate, which brought around Clayton Ely and knotted the score at two apiece.

Both teams were scoreless in the eighth, but in the top of the ninth, the Tigers put Adams on the mound in relief of Loller, but couldn’t maintain his dominance, as he gave up three runs in the top of the ninth.  Zach Grogan followed Adams after the three runs were scored, and collected the last two outs of the inning.

The Tigers couldn’t make anything happen in bottom of the ninth, only connecting for one hit, with a groundout, a fly-out and a force-out at first.

The loss was the third straight for the Tigers, who are off until April 23 when they travel to Heath.
