Madisonville Pirates 8, Fulton Railroaders 5 In 11 innings.

PiratesAfter a strange ending in the bottom of the 11th inning, the Pirates walk away with their second straight win over the Railroaders.

Fulton took an early 1st inning lead from a solo homerun by Angelo Burrage, his 4th on the season. Pirate starter Michael Edwards settled in after giving up the homer and pitched 6 fine innings totaling 7 strikeouts, issuing  just one walk and allowing 3 hits. Railroader starter Tyler Saltsman also pitched a good game through 7 shutout innings giving up only one hit, 2 walks and striking out 8 batters. While the Tradewater sent a fresh arm to mound after 6 frames, Fulton left a tired Saltsman in to start the 8th inning and the Pirates began their comeback. Cole Fergus led of with a solo homerun, followed by a runner reaching on an error, then Trevor Haggard stepped to plate and knock a 2 RBI homer to give the Pirates a 3-1 lead. Fulton relief finally came in and shutdown Pirate scoring until the top of the 11th inning.

The Railroaders tied the game up at 3 all in the bottom half of the 8th scoring 2 from 2 hits and one Pirate error, but couldn’t get the go ahead run in with bases loaded and 1 out as a double play ended the inning. After 10 innings play, the Pirates began the 11th with a walk, single and 2 more walks to take a 4-3 lead. Tradewater then scored 4 more using another single and 2 costly Railroader errors to extend their lead to 8-3. The Railroaders began a one out rally in the bottom of the inning using 2 hits, 2 walks and 2 Pirate errors to score one run and leave the bases loaded for Fulton’s leading hitter Austin Bryant. With a 0-1 count, Pirate reliever Wayne Sparks threw an over hand curve ball that didn’t break and sailed over Bryant’s head hitting his bat and fell into the field of play, a fair ball. Unaware the ball was fair, Bryant remained at the play turned around, catcher Cole Fergus alertly recovered the ball, stepped on home plate for a force out and threw the ball to 1st base for a doubleplay ending the game.

Sparks gets the win for Tradewater pitching for the final 3 innings, and Cody Alvey takes the hard loss walking in the go ahead run and tagged with 2 more unearned from errors.
