EKU Women’s Golf Adds Transfer from Kansas State

RICHMOND, Ky. – After playing three seasons at Kansas State University, Kristen Dorsey will conclude her collegiate career as a member of the Eastern Kentucky University women’s golf team, head coach Mike Whitson announced today.

“I am pleased that Kristen has decided to join us for her final year of collegiate golf,” Whitson said. “She comes to us after three successful years of golf and four successful years academically at KSU, already receiving her degree. She will be a graduate student here at EKU and I am looking forward to her being a part of an exciting year.”

Dorsey earned a bachelor’s degree at KSU and will work on a master’s degree at EKU.  She has one year of eligibility remaining and can begin play immediately.

The Gulf Breeze, Fla., native spent four years at Kansas State.  She redshirted her first year in 2008-09 before playing in six combined events over the next two years.  As a junior in 2011-12, Dorsey played in six of the team’s 11 events and posted the sixth best scoring average on the team at 77.68.

Dorsey appeared as an individual in four of the six events she participated.  She shot a season-low round of 73 at the Johnie Imes Invitational.  She carded a career-low 54-hole total of 228 at the Ole Miss Rebel Intercollegiate.  Her best finish of the 2011-12 season was a tie for 22nd at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational.

Dorsey’s career-low round came during her redshirt freshman season in 2009-10 when she fired a 72 at the Palmetto Intercollegiate.

The Colonels lost six seniors off its 9-person 2011-12 roster.  The returning players for 2012-13 include rising seniors April Emerson and Alex Schmidt and rising sophomore Nicki Henry.  Three high school athletes signed to play at EKU in the fall.  Anna Gleizner (Greenwood, Ind.), Rachel Welker (Terre Haute, Ind.) and Becky Sharpe (Williamsburg, Ky.) will begin their freshman seasons in August.
