Union College Athletics

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Union College softball had a tough pill to swallow on Wednesday, dropping a doubleheader to host Georgetown (Ky.) by the scores of 10-2 and 5-2.

Following the defeats, the Bulldogs fall to 2-7 overall. The Tigers improved to 7-3 on the year.

Game One

Union came out battling as it collected two hits in the first inning, but it was Georgetown who came out swinging in the bottom of the second as the host grabbed an 8-0 lead.

In the top of the third, Union’s leadoff batter Randi Bass (JR/Milton, Fla.) stepped up and hit a homerun to deep right-center on a 2-0 count to put the Bulldogs on the board. This gave Union some momentum as Chandler Overton (SR/Nashville, Tenn.) would score thanks to two errors by Georgetown and a fly out hit.

Georgetown would add another two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the win 10-2 in five innings.

Bass led Union at the plate in going 1-for-2 with a RBI and run scored.

Game Two

Georgetown was first to get on the board, as they scored two runs in the second, and one in the third and fourth, but Union would rally out two of their own in the top of the fifth making the score 4-2.

In the fifth, Alannah Fuller (FR/Franklin, Ky.) singed to third and pinch-runner Destinee Arnold (JR/Paris, Ky.) came in and moved around the bases on Georgetown’s errors, putting her in scoring position.  Arnold will then score on a single by Bass, putting Union on the board.  Also, moving around the bases on the Tigers errors was Mandy Head (SO/Versailles, Ky.), after she reached on a walk.  She would also score on a single by Overton.

The Bulldogs would allow one more run in the bottom of the fifth, closing the game with a score of 5-2.

Bass and Overton would both go 1-for-2 in game two, with one RBI a piece.

Up Next

Union returns to action on Friday when it plays host to Midway (Ky.) for a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
