Blue Raiders Travel to Cumberlands on Saturday | Lindsey Wilson

Cumberlands is the fourth team either ranked or receiving votes on the LWC schedule

Lindsey WilsonCOLUMBIA, Ky. — For the second straight week, the Lindsey Wilson College football team will face an opponent for the first time in the program’s history.

The Blue Raiders (2-3) travel to Williamsburg, Ky., on Saturday for a date with No. 12-ranked University of the Cumberlands (4-0). Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. CT at James H. Taylor II Field.

Saturday’s game is the final non-West Division game of the regular season for the Blue Raiders. It also marks the second game of three straight away from Blue Raider Stadium.

While Lindsey Wilson had to deal with Faulkner University’s passing attack last week, the Blue Raiders encounter the best running team in the Mid-South Conference this week.

Cumberlands is averaging 303.8 yards per game on the ground this season which has translated into points for the Patriots — who also lead the MSC in scoring at 46.8 points per game.

The Blue Raiders have had success this season defending the run. Lindsey Wilson is third in the MSC allowing 101 yards per game on the ground.

While its strength versus strength with the Blue Raider run defense and Cumberlands running attack, another storyline to watch is on the other side of the ball.

Lindsey Wilson is averaging 220.2 passing yards per game while the Patriots are allowing just 155.3 yards through the air — both rank third best in the conference.

Ultimately, the game could come down to the Blue Raiders ability to protect the football.

Lindsey Wilson is unbeaten this season when winning the turnover battle; in fact the Blue Raiders are 8-0 all-time when committing fewer miscues than their opponents.

Kickoff for Saturday’s game is set for 12:30 p.m. CT. The game will be on 93.5 WAIN-FM and at beginning at 11:45 a.m. CT with the pregame show.

In addition to the game, the coaching staffs for both teams will unite — along with football coaches throughout the nation — in the Coach to Cure MD weekend.

The weekend is used to bring awareness to the fight against Ducheene Muscular Dystrophy — a genetic disorder in young men. For more information, log onto
