Titans Trim Down

The Titans make cuts to 53- man roster; add 5 to practice squad

Fifty three is the number of available players for NFL rosters.  The Tennessee Titans, like all teams in the league, have made the tough decisions.

TitansMaking the cut is the point of preseason and a few players like Darius Reynaud took advantage of their opportunity.  The NFL’s deadline came, coaches decided… and running back Reynaud was still standing.  Primarily, leading the way in rushing and return yards for the preseason did the trick.

Marc Mariani, the Titans outstanding returner will spend the season on IR due to a broken leg.  Reynaud is expected to fill the role starting September 9th as Tennessee plays host to the New England Patriots for the regular season opener at LP Field.

This gives the Titans a total of four running backs to start the 2012 campaign.  Chris  Johnson will now have Javon Ringer, Jamie Harper and Reynaud as back ups on the depth chart.

Twenty-one players were released by the mandatory NFL deadline.

Joining Reynaud, the few who survived the final cut:

Titans

Defensive end Keyunta Dawson applies pressure.

Fullback Quinn Johnson, linebacker Zac Diles, safety Al Afalava, defensive tackle DaJohn Harris and defensive end Keyunta Dawso

Wide receiver Kenny Britt was listed on the Reserve/Suspended list, which does not count against the 53-man roster this week.

Injured Reserve

The Titans put five more players on IR — David Ball (concussion), Leger Douzable (shoulder), Kevin Malast (leg), Ryan Durand (leg) and Terrence Wheatley (hamstring).

A new NFL rule permits one player to come off IR during the season.  The Titans have elected not to use this option, yet.

Injury settlements with players on Injured Reserve will now take place.  A mandatory six weeks waiting period is in effect to re-sign after the settlement is reached for players.

Practice Squad Signings

The NFL allowed all teams, including the Titans, to begin signing players to their eight-man practice squad.  Five have signed to the squad, thus far.

TitansStaying in Nashville will be FB Collin Mooney, WR Michael Preston, TE Brandon Barden, S Tracy Wilson and DT Zach Clayton.
