Thomas More Defeats Birmingham-Southern, 3-1, On Second Day of Wrublewski | volleyball

volleyball(CINCINNATI, Ohio) – The Thomas More College volleyball team defeated Birmingham-Southern College, 3-1, today (Saturday, September 8, 2012) in its first match of the second day of the Charlie Wrublewski Tournament hosted by the College of Mount St. Joseph at the Harrington Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

With the win, the Saints improve to 5-4 on the season.

The Saints won the by the scores of 25-18, 25-19, 24-26 and 25-12.  The offense was led by senior outside hitter Hanna Lietz (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton), who had 14 kills.  Sophomore outside hitter Karsen Cronin (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) added nine kills, junior middle hitter Tyler Deaton (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic) added eight, while freshman middle hitter Jessica Knaley (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) finished with seven.  Senior setter Tori Verville (Edgewood, Ky./Holy Cross) led the team in assists with 33.

Defensively, the Saint had two players finish with double-digit digs as sophomore defensive specialist Kelsey Castiglioni (Harrison Township, Mich./L’Anse Creuse) had 20 and sophomore defensive specialist Christina Brackett-Newport (Louisville, Ky./Seneca) finished with 11.

Thomas More closes out the Wrublewski Tournament at 5 p.m. tonight when it plays the hosts Lions.
