Southwestern vs. Pulaski County

Friday night was a special night at the reservation as the Southwestern Warriors improved to 7-2 on the season, winning the district title on senior night, and head coach Larry French got the 300 win of his illustrious career.  The was a defensive battle most of the night as Southwestern and Pulaski County battled with neither squad being able to sustain much offense.  Southwestern took the opening kickoff and marched down the field before Patric Edwards carried the ball the last 24 yards to pay-dirt.  William Avina added the point after and Southwestern led 7-0.The two teams would exchange drive after drive with no one finding the end zone in spite of several trips into the red zone.  The 7-0 margin for Southwestern would hold until the fourth quarter.

After a Pulaski punt, Southwestern’s William Lemmon would break free down the left sideline and race 82 yards for the touchdown.  Avina’s point after gave Southwestern a 14-0 lead with just over ten minutes remaining in the game.  Pulaski County was not finished however.  Jaylon Conwell took a Wiley Cain shovel pass 49 yards to the Southwestern five yard line.  After a four yard run by Conwell, Ricky Maxey exploded over the line to cut the lead to 14-6 after a failed two point attempt.

Southwestern got the ball back with just over seven minutes remaining in the contest.  The Warriors methodically marched the ball to the Pulaski County one yard line before Floyd Fannin scored the final touchdown of the game with 1:30 remaining.  Avina’s point after gave Southwestern their 21-6 lead.  Avina’s kickoff was bobbled and recovered by Warrior Drew Sawyers to seal the victory.

Lemmon led the Warriors with 126 yards on 10 carries with one touchdown.  Edwards eclipsed the 100 yard mark for the game with 103 yards on 28 carries with one touchdown and is over 1000 yards for the season with 1058.  The Warrior defense held Pulaski County to 242 total yards.  Wiley Cain threw for 209 yards, going 16-27.  Jake Johnson led the Maroons in receiving with 92 yards on eight catches.

Defensively, Pulaski County recorded two sacks, one each for Jaxon Mobley and Jaxon Morgan.  Austin Dalton recorded the lone sack for Southwestern.  Pulaski County picked off Brandon Pruitt twice on the night, one by Ricky Maxey and one by Dylan Hopkins.  Southwestern also recovered two fumbles, one by Treavor Brock and one by Drew Sawyers.
