Southwestern vs North Laurel

The Southwestern Warriors improved to 9-3 on the season and advanced to the regional finals with Friday night’s 41-21 victory over North Laurel at the Reservation.  North Laurel took the opening kickoff and picked up a couple of first downs before a penalty slowed the drive.  After the punt, Southwestern went three and out.  North Laurel would break the scoreless tie when Matt Sizemore broke free for a 52 yard touchdown run.  Cole Stenger added the point after and North Laurel grabbed a 7-0 lead.  Southwestern would respond on their next possession.  Patric Edwards would finish the drive with a 12 yard run and William Avina added the point after for a 7-7 tie with 3:39 remaining in the first quarter.
On their next possession, Edwards scored on a ten yard run and after Avina added the point after, Southwestern led 14-7.  Edwards would score the next time he touched the ball, this time for a 57 yard run, marking three scores for Edwards on three consecutive touches.  Avina missed the point after and Southwestern led 20-7 at the half.
In the second half, Southwestern continued their scoring ways as they took the opening kick-off of the second half, marched down the field and Treavor Brock scored on a ten yard run with 8:41 remaining in the third quarter.  Avina nailed the extra point and Southwestern led 27-7.  The Warriors scored on their next possession as well.  Edwards took it in from two yards out and with 1:41 left in the third, the Warriors stretched the lead to 34-7 with Avina’s extra point.
North Laurel would not go quietly, they ended the string of 34 consecutive points for Southwestern when Sizemore scored on a two yard run.  The Stenger point after cut the lead to 34-14 with 6:20 remaining.  The Jaguars then recovered the onsides kick and marched to another touchdown as Sizemore scored his third of the night.  This one coming on a 23 yard run.  Stenger added the point after and North Laurel cut the lead to 34-21.  Southwestern would cap off the scoring when Brock scored on a 23 yard run with 1:12 remaining.  Ermina Rammick added the point after and Southwestern would win the contest by a final score of 41-21.
On the night, Edwards would lead Southwestern with 116 yards rushing on 11 attempts with four touchdowns.  William Lemmon would follow with 98 yards on ten carries while Brock added 57 yards on five carries with two touchdowns.  Through the air, Brandon Pruitt was three of six for 101 yards.  Brock was the leading receiver for the Warriors catching one pass for 64 yards.
Defensively, Southwestern gave up 142 yards rushing to Cole McWhorter of the Jaguars on 19 carries.  Sizemore added 126 yards on 15 carries with three touchdowns.  Drew Sawyers did have an interception for the Warriors while Kody Price and Austin Barnes added sacks.  Southwestern will host Pulaski County in the Regional Championship next Friday night.  Coverage can be heard on MVPSportschannel.com beginning around 7:15.
