Schreiver, Morrissey claim all-conference honors | Northern Kentucky University

Northern Kentucky UniversityMACON, Ga. – A pair of Northern Kentucky University volleyball players were honored for their stellar seasons, as Jenna Schreiver and Kelly Morrissey were named to the Atlantic Sun Conference all-conference teams, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Schreiver was a first-team selection while Morrissey garnered second-team honors.  Together, they helped the Norse to a 25-7 overall record and a 12-6 mark in A-Sun play in their inaugural season of NCAA Division I play. Were they eligible, the Norse would be the No. 3 seed in this weekend’s A-Sun Tournament.

Schreiver, a senior from Edgewood, Ky., finished her career with 5,120 assists, staking her claim as the top setter in NKU history.  Her 1,350 assists this season were her highest ever season total, while her 11.34 assists per set ranked second among conference setters.  Additionally, her 11.10 assists per set in league matches ranked third.  Schreiver was also one of NKU’s top defensive players, racking up 12 double-doubles while posting 272 digs and 58 total blocks, each third-best for the Norse.

The award marks Schreiver’s fourth-career all-conference selection.  She is also a two-time all-region honoree and last year was named to the AVCA All-America third team.

“Jenna played a huge role in the success of our team this season and throughout her career,” commented head coach Liz Hart.  “She is a tremendous setter and a great volleyball player with a very high volleyball IQ.  Not only did she put her hitters in great situations, but she carried a large load defensively as well.”

Morrissey, a senior from Loveland, Ohio, was one of the A-Sun’s top all-around players in 2012.  Her 346 kills and 288 digs each ranked second on the team, while she led the Norse and ranked fifth in the A-Sun with 34 service aces.  Her 13 double-doubles were tops for the Norse.  Morrissey was also honored earlier this season as NKU’s first-ever A-Sun Player of the Week.

“Kelly’s role changed dramatically this year, playing all the way around and as the numbers show, she did a fantastic job,” added Hart. “She played a key role in our offense from an attacking stand point, but maybe even more importantly from a serve-receive perspective.  Kelly was very consistent and extremely reliable leader in tough situations throughout the season.”
