HEBRON, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University’s Corey Richmond won the individual medal Tuesday afternoon as the Norse men’s golf team posted a fourth-place finish at the Bearcat Invitational.
Richmond finished 3-under par at Traditions Golf Course with a two-day total of 213. He opened the three-round event with a 67, the lowest round shot in the tournament, and carded rounds of 73-73 to finish the event tied for first with Austin Peay’s Anthony Bradley (70-71-72 213).
Richmond captured the individual medal with a birdie on the first playoff hole.
Steve Rickels carded rounds of 72-74-72 for a total of 218. He tied for 12th place, while Jones Brown finished in a tie for 23rd with a three-round total of 223 (73-75-75).
Michael Schmidt and Clayton Portz rounded out the team scoring for NKU. Schmidt turned in rounds of 76-73-82 for a total of 231 to finish the invitational tied for 46th. Portz finished three strokes behind Schmidt and tied for 55th with a total of 234 (79-73-82).
As a team, the Norse finished the tournament with a two-day total of 883 (288-293-302).
Austin Peay captured the team title for the second consecutive yearwith a team total of 867 (292-289-286). The Governors entered the final round of competition tied for second but shot 286 as a team to move past Belmont (287-290-296 873).
NKUwill return to action on Oct. 22 when the Norse participate in the University of Dayton Invitational at the NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio.
