The 92nd season for Murray State Men’s Basketball offers an exciting schedule for the Racers in 2016-17.

Illinois State comes to the CFSB Center for the season opener and Alabama A&M, Detroit and Wright State also play the Racers on their home floor. Murray State fans will enjoy easily traveled road games including Middle Tennessee, Southern Illinois, Evansville and Ole Miss.

MSU’s 2016 non-conference schedule offers a similar level of difficulty as the 2015 schedule did. The 2015 lineup  was the ninth toughest non-conference schedule in the nation and averaged 21 wins per team.

“We’re excited to announce another challenging schedule for the upcoming season,” Coach McMahon said. “Our team will get the opportunity to compete against some outstanding programs that will prepare us for OVC play. I’m thrilled we’ll be playing in front of our home crowd on three of the first four weekends of the season beginning with Illinois State on opening night. And this year’s schedule also features short road trips for our great fans to travel and watch us play.”

Playing their 19th season in the CFSB Center, Murray State hosts Berry College in an exhibition game (Nov. 3) and opens the regular season against Illinois State (Nov. 11).

After playing at MTSU (Nov. 15), the Racers compete at the BGSU Tournament (Nov. 19-21) against Green Bay, UMKC and the host team. The month ends at home with Alabama A&M (Nov. 26) and a road contest against SIU (Nov. 29).

In December, the Racers have five home games when they host Detroit (Dec. 3), Bethel (Dec. 12), Wright State (Dec. 22), Brescia (Dec. 29) and Tennessee State (Dec. 31). Road games for the month include Evansville (Dec. 10), Ole Miss. (Dec. 15) and South Dakota State (Dec. 17).

murray_stMSU begins a quest for their 25th Ohio Valley Conference regular season championship when with a rare New Year’s Eve home game against Tennessee State. That tip is at 1 p.m.

Four straight road games await in January when MSU travels to Jacksonville State (Jan. 5), Tennessee Tech (Jan. 7), Eastern Illinois (Jan. 12) and SIUE (Jan. 14). MSU comes home (Jan. 19) to play Eastern Kentucky before heading out again to play at Austin Peay (Jan. 21). The month ends with games at home against Southeast Missouri and UT Martin (Jan. 26 and 28).

The Racers begin February at home with Belmont (Feb. 4) and a road game (Feb. 8) against Morehead State. They come home for three games against Austin Peay (Feb. 11), SIUE (Feb. 16) and Eastern Illinois (Feb. 18). Murray State ends the regular season at SEMO (Feb. 23) and UT Martin (Feb. 25).

MSU goes for their 16th OVC Tournament championship when the event is again played in Nashville’s Municipal Auditorium, March 1-4, 2017.

An announcement of Murray State’s televised games will be made before the season by the OVC. The remaining tip off times will be released at a later date.

The 2016-17 season marks the 19th for the Racers in the CFSB Center, where Murray State has one of the best home-court advantages in the nation. MSU has won 85 percent of their games at the Bank in totaling a 221-38 (.853) record in 18 seasons.

Murray State enters the season with the nation’s fourth-longest run of consecutive winning seasons at 29.
