Pioneers fall to No. 7 St. Thomas | Transylvania University

Transylvania UniversityATLANTA, Ga. – Playing a top 10 team for the second day in a row, Transylvania fell 3-0 Saturday to St. Thomas (Minn.) in second-day volleyball action in the Emory Fall Classic.

Transy (2-5) was matched against Berry College later Saturday in its final match of the tourney. Previously, the Pioneers defeated Averett and lost to No. 4 Emory. St. Thomas improves to 6-1 on the year with its only loss coming to Emory on Friday.

Transy competed well with St. Thomas, losing by scores of 25-21, 25-23, and 25-19.

Junior Meghan Bowers again led the Pioneers in kills with nine and freshman Courtney Smith added eight.

Sarah Jonas was the leader in assists with 24 while Erin Hoffmann continued to pace the team in digs with 16.Melissa Sexton added 14 digs while Audrey Brown contributed 11.

Transy will play its first home match of the year on Tuesday, hosting NCAA Division II member Bellarmine at the Beck Center at 7 p.m.
