Murray State University Selects 2012-13 Cheer Squad

MurrayMurray State University held tryouts for the 2012-13 Cheer Squad on Sunday, June 10. Twenty cheerleaders were chosen from the 40 applicants who competed for spots on the team which will cheer at all Racer football, men’s and women’s basketball games. The squad is also heavily involved in campus activities and promoting attendance and participation at all Racer home athletic events for all sports as well as working to promote Murray State in the community and region.

“This was the largest turnout we’ve had in recent years,” commented Paul Bubb, associate athletic director. “Our applicants came from Florida, Virginia, Colorado, Indiana, Tennessee, Illinois, Missouri and of course Kentucky to compete for one of the twenty spots on next year’s team.”

Kayla Adams, freshman from Murray, Ky.; Courtney Bell, junior from Benton, Ill.; Haley Boudreaux, freshman from Murray, Ky.; Sarah Bryant, freshman from Shelbyville, Ky.; Chelsea Chandler, junior from Mayfield, Ky.; Misty Clark, junior from Benton, Ky.; Alexa Hosking, freshman from Terre Haute, Ind.; Mary Jefferson, freshman from Berea, Ky.; Marissa Johnson, junior from Gilbertsville, Ky.; Ashley Jones, sophomore from Highlands Ranch, Colo.; Devan McCoy, sophomore from Benton, Ky.; Arielle Nussel, junior from Pinckneyville, Ill; Brianna Oexmann, freshman from Vincennes, Ind.; Allison Petterson, junior from Orlando, Fla.; Haley Rohleder, freshman from Louisville, Ky.; Ashley Rudolph, sophomore from Benton, Ky.; Hannah Swinney, sophomore from Lewisburg, Ky.; Ashley Travis, freshman from Shelbyville, Ky.;
Tiffany Whitfill, sophomore from Hardinsburg, Ky.; and Ellen Wills, freshman from Midlotian, Va..

Bubb also announced that Ms. Mallory Cathey, a Murray State alumnus, will assume head coaching duties for this year’s team.
