Marion Bobcats 13, Owensboro Oilers 2


OwensboroThe Owensboro Oilers to the visiting Marion Bobcats in their Tuesday night game at Owensboro. The final score was 13 to 2.

The Bobcats scored first with one run in the top of the 2nd inning. With one out, Tyler Bonaventure reached on an error and advanced to second on a separate error. He scored one out later on a RBI single by Dave Murphy. Marion made it 2-0 with a run in the top of the 4th inning by virtue of a solo RBI home run from Bonaventure. The Oilers scored their only two runs of the night in the bottom of the same inning. Tyler Mathews led off the frame with a single. John Saylor walked. Dalton West followed by reaching on a fielder’s choice used to force Mathews out at third base but the attempt to convert it into a double play went badly allowing Saylor to score while West wound up on third base credited with an RBI. West scored on an RBI groundout by Austin Edge before another groundout ended the rally. The score was tied 2 to 2, but that was as competitive as the game was ever going to get.

The Bobcats broke the game open for good by scoring five runs in the top of the 5th inning. Scoring were Jake Pewitt (walk), Michael Huddleston (dropped third strike), Derek Hannahs (single), Tyler Bernard (double; 2 RBIs) and Brandon Ollet single. Clint Ambrosch and Bonaventure also collected lone RBIs in the Bobcat inning. Marion added four runs in the top of the 7th inning. Scoring were Ollet (single), Bonaventure (walk), James Peterson (walk) and Dave Murphy (single; RBI) Pewitt and Huddleston also collected individual RBIs. The Bobcats tacked on one run in the tops of the 8th and 9th innings. In the top of the 8th inning. Bernard led off with a walk and eventually scored on a RBI single by Peterson. In the top of the 9th inning, Caleb Luttrell singled with one out and eventually scored on a RBI single by Ambrosch.

Bobcats starter Darren Travers pitched six innings for the win and Kyle Williams gets a save for 3 innings pitched with a lead. Oilers starter Tyler Miller took the loss.
