Blue Raiders end season with a 17-4 record

MOBILE, Ala. — The Lindsey Wilson College women’s tennis team suffered a 5-0 loss to third-seeded Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University today in the NAIA National Championships at the Mobile Tennis Center.

With the loss, the Blue Raiders’ season ends at 17-4. Embry-Riddle (22-3) advances into tomorrow’s national semifinals.

The Eagles dominated play early, sweeping all three doubles points from the No. 11-seeded Blue Raiders. Each of the three Embry-Riddle doubles teams entered the match with a national ranking.

The No. 19-ranked duo of Kristina Marova and Paola Montero defeated Lindsey Wilson‘sAnna Gaprindashvili and Rocio Cardo 8-0 at the No. 3 doubles match to help the Eagles take the early 1-0 lead.

Embry-Riddle’s Rocio Frej and Ekaterina Kamendova — ranked No. 11 nationally — doubled the Eagle lead in the second-seeded match with an 8-4 win over Diana Gerlakh andLaura Vergara.

The No. 4-ranked doubles team of Josefine Strom and Yi Ching Chen completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win over No. 7-ranked Trina Slapeka and Slavica Milanovic in the top-seeded match.

Embry-Riddle — who had four singles players ranked in the top-35 — clinched the team win with straight sets wins at No. 2 and No. 6 singles.

The remaining matches were halted once Embry-Riddle claimed its fifth point.

“Their doubles were just too much for us today,” Lindsey Wilson coach Daniel Finn said. “They are a very good team. I’m very proud of our ladies and how hard they fought in this tournament. It was a great run to the quarters.”
