Louisville Women’s Soccer Releases 2012 Schedule

U of L will host eight regular season games and 10 total matches at Cardinal Park

LouisvilleLOUISVILLE, Ky. – Highlighted by eight regular season home games, 10 total home matches and the Courtyard by Marriott Louisville Airport Cardinal Classic, the University of Louisville women’s soccer program released its 2012 schedule on Thursday afternoon.

The home slate will begin with a pair of exhibition matches at Cardinal Park against Ohio State (Aug. 10, 6 p.m., ET) and Wright State (Aug. 12, 1 p.m.) before Louisville’s season-opener at Butler on Aug. 17 at 7 p.m., ET in Indianapolis, Ind. That will be followed by the Cardinals’ home-opener against Purdue on Aug. 24 at 7 p.m.

After taking to the road for a pair of neutral site matches against Southeast Missouri (Aug. 31, 5 p.m.) and UNC-Greensboro (Sept. 2, noon) on Labor Day weekend in Lexington, Ky., the Cardinals will return home to host the 2012 edition of the Courtyard by Marriott Louisville Airport Classic on Sept. 7-9. On Sept. 7, Toledo will play Samford at 5 p.m., prior to the Cardinals annual matchup with rival Kentucky at 7:30 p.m. On Sept. 9, Samford will play Kentucky at noon, while Louisville will conclude the weekend at 2:30 p.m., against Toledo.

The defending BIG EAST Conference National Division champion Cardinals will then embark on a challenging BIG EAST Conference schedule with road games at Notre Dame (Sept. 14, 5 p.m.) and DePaul (Sept. 16, 2 p.m.). Louisville’s BIG EAST home-opener is set for Sept. 21 at 7 p.m., at Cardinal Park against Syracuse and will be followed by a home match with St. John’s on Sept. 23 at 1 p.m. U of L will conclude the month of September with road games at Marquette (Sept. 28, 8 p.m.) and USF (Sept. 30, 1 p.m.).

The Cardinals will host Villanova (Oct. 5, 7 p.m.) and Georgetown (Oct. 7, 1 p.m.) to open the month of October before traveling to New Jersey for games at Rutgers (Oct. 12, 5:30 p.m.) and Seton Hall (Oct. 14, 1 p.m.). Louisville will conclude the regular season at home against Cincinnati on Oct. 19 at 7 p.m.

The BIG EAST Championship will open with first round games at campus sites on Oct. 25 and quarterfinal matches on campus on Oct. 28. The semifinals and final are set for Nov. 2-4 in Storrs, Conn. The NCAA Championship is scheduled to begin on Nov. 9-11 with first round action at campus sites.

Last season, the Cardinals had their best season in school history advancing to the program’s first NCAA Sweet 16 and closing 2011 ranked 24th in the final NSCAA coaches’ poll. With its 14-7-3 record overall, Louisville set a school record for wins while also earning its first ever BIG EAST Conference National Division title. Making its third NCAA Championship appearance ever, U of L earned a first round win over Dayton and eliminated No. 4 seeded and previously unbeaten Memphis in the second round before falling to No. 1 seed Florida State in the Sweet 16.
