Lindsey Wilson’s Tommy Smith Rushes Toward MSC Football Weekly Honor

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Tommy Smith gained 120 yards on the ground with a pair of touchdowns for Lindsey Wilson College on Saturday to be named the Mid-South Conference Offensive Football Player of the Week, league officials announced on Monday.

lindsey wilsonSmith’s mark set a freshman program record for the Blue Raiders as he helped them beat previously unbeaten Pikeville (Ky.) 53-36.

The Zebulon, Ga., native averaged 10 yards per carry on 12 attempts. As a team, Lindsey Wilson rushed for a program-record 309 yards.

Lindsey Wilson is 2-1 on the season after winning two straight games, while Smith is averaging 52.3 yards on the ground per contest, including 7.1 yards per carry in 22 total touches.

Also honored by the conference were Georgetown’s (Ky.) Josh Downing as the defensive player of the week and Union’s (Ky.) Bert Brown received special teams honors.

The Blue Raiders return home on Saturday to face fourth-ranked Georgetown at 7 p.m. CT inside Blue Raider Stadium.
