Lindsey WilsonCOLUMBIA, Ky. — Pool-play groups and schedules were announced by the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) on Wednesday for the 2012 Softball National Championship and No. 3-seed Lindsey Wilson is joined by Lubbock Christian (Texas), Union (Tenn.) and Indiana Southeast in Pool E.

Championship play begins on Thursday, May 17 at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex in Gulf Shores, Ala. The Blue Raiders are making their third straight trip to the event after winning the Mid-South Conference Tournament Championship on April 28.

During pool play, each team plays a single game against each other, guaranteeing three games at nationals. The team with a 3-0 record or 2-1 mark and the widest margin of victories advances to the eight-team double-elimination tournament at the same complex on May 21-23.

The Blue Raiders open play at 11:30 a.m. CT on Thursday, May 17 against No. 2-seed Union (45-10), winners of the TranSouth Conference Tournament. Friday, Lindsey Wilson plays at 1 p.m. against top-seeded Lubbock Christian (54-7), which finished as the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament Runner-Up.

Pool play wraps up for Lindsey Wilson at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday against No. 4-seed Indiana Southeast (32-17), which qualified for the championship by winning Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament title.

The Blue Raiders only game against a team in their pool came against the Grenadiers from IU Southeast on Feb. 24 in the Alabama Arctic Blast in Decatur, Ala. Lindsey Wilson topped the Grenadiers 8-2 en route to a 4-1 finish at the event.

Lindsey Wilson has finished 2-1 at the NAIA Championship the last two seasons, falling just shy of advancing to the program’s first round of eight appearance. The Blue Raiders were 2-0 last season before losing to Belhaven (Miss.) 3-1 in the final game.
