Blue Raiders sweep Campbellsville 5-0 for eighth MSC title

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Lindsey Wilson College women’s tennis team captured its eighth straight Mid-South Conference Tournament title today with a 5-0 win over Campbellsville University in the finals at the Boone Tennis Center.

Due to wet courts from the overnight and early morning rains in the Lexington area, the match was moved inside to the Boone Tennis Center’s four-court indoor facility.

The top-seeded Blue Raiders (15-3) won all three doubles matches to sprint out to a 3-0 lead over the second-seeded Tigers (13-6).

Lindsey Wilson‘s Anna Gaprindashvili and Rocio Cardo claimed the first point of the day with an 8-4 win over Lindy Charity and Stacey Drew in the third-seeded doubles.

The top-seeded team of Trina Slapeka and Slavica Milanovic pushed the lead to 2-0 a few moments later with an 8-2 win over Anna Tumanyan and Aspen Edwards.

Diana Gerlakh and Laura Vergara completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win over Megan Charity and Jenna Sallee in No. 2 doubles.

In the singles matches, Lindsey Wilson dropped just two games in the matches that finished en route to the title.

Slapeka — the MSC Women’s Tennis Player of the Year — cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Tumanyan in the top-seeded singles match to give the No. 12-ranked Blue Raiders the 4-0 lead.

Milanovic closed out the win in three-seeded singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Lindy Charity for the fifth and final point of the MSC Tournament.

The remainder of the matches were halted.

Lindsey Wilson earns the conference’s automatic bid into the NAIA National Championships May 15-19 at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala.
