Hoppers conference call.

Hopkinsville, KY— The hosting Hopkinsville Hoppers broke through a scoring drought to blast the Owensboro Oilers 9-3 in front of 350+ fans on Saturday night.  The contest fell just short of 3 hours and had its share of ups and downs for both teams.

The Oilers jumped in front 1-0 in the top of the 2nd inning only to see the Hoppers go ahead with 2 runs in the latter half of the inning.  An error by the Oilers, combined with a called balk aided in giving the Hoppers the edge.

The score remained locked until the 7th inning when the Oilers manufactured 2 4uns due to a couple of Hoppers errors, plus a sacrifice fly.  Missed signs were part of the communication issues for Hopkinsville resulting in lost opportunities.

In the bottom of the 8th, the Hoppers found their offensive groove and hammered out 5 hits which garnered 7 runs.  Brett Pirtle and Cameron Olsen had two 2 RBI doubles, plus Kaleb Brown’s 1 RBI double.

Reliever Will Hammock gets the win for Hopkinsville’s Hoppers.  Colton Slank is the losing pitcher for Owensboro.

The Hoppers move to 4-2 on the season and keep pace with their next scheduled opponent, the league-leading Marion Bobcats.  The Bobcats lead only by a half game with Sunday afternoon’s contest very important for both teams n this early stage of the season.
