Hoppers Houdini Act, Escape With Another Win

Hoptown was maddening for Madisonville in 6-5 final

HoppersThe Hoptown Hoppers might as well be called the Harry Houdinis.  Their come from behind act to barely escape OVL opponents is thrilling each time and well worth the price of admission.

This time, the Hoppers came from behind in the 9th to pull the rug out from under the Madisonville Pirates.  The Pirates who had controlled the game, wound up watching their 5-0 lead evaporate before their very eyes.  As if Hollywood had written the script, the Hoppers found their way back to win it 6-5.

Madisonville scored 3 runs in the 3rd inning and added 2 more in their half of the 5th to give themselves a comfortable 5-0 lead.

Hoptown managed a couple of scores in the bottom half of the 5th to keep it interesting.  Two more runs during the the 7th inning gave the Hoppers (and their fans) hope.

Two pitches that got away from Cory Ames hit Hoppers’ batters,  Matt McGowan and Fernando Tanaka, putting them on base and contributing to the final 2 runs.  The win gave the Hoppers their 7th of the season.

The Hoppers had 8 hits on the night.  Catcher Brad Sevenish lead the Hoppers offense, going 4 of 5 on the night with an RBI.Hoppers

The Pirates’ Cole Fergus was responsible for 3 RBI’s while going 2 for 3.  Trevor Haggard also contributed 2 RBI to the Pirate cause.

The Pirates committed 4 costly errors.  The Hoppers, meanwhile, had none.

Despite only 1 1/3 innings, Tyler Vails picked up the win for the Hoppers.  Ames has the loss.
