Hoppers Had a Blast Hosting Oilers

HoppersHopkinsville, KY – Hoptown’s Hoppers put on an offensive show for those who enjoyed the first summer night of 2012. The longest day of the year must have seemed even longer for Owensboro as the Oilers were on the short side of a 13-1 drubbing.

The Hoppers put up points in seven straight innings to get the night started. Already with a 3-0 lead, the Hoppers erupted with 6 consecutive hits in the third inning, leading to 4 runs. The Hoppers never took their foot off the accelerator the remainder of the night.

The Hoppers’ Nolan Fisher two-run homer in the 6th was the highlight of the contest. Fisher finished 3-for-5 on the night with an RBI double in the 1st, scored two and drove in four runs. Brett Pirtle went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs and run batted in. while Matt McGowan went 3-for-5 with three runs and an RBI. Fernando Tanaka hit a double.

Colin Bucker doubled for the Oilers.

On the mound for the Hoppers, Jason McDonald picked up the win. McDonald allowed one unearned run on three hits, he struck out three and walked four in six innings.

Kyle Barbee got the save, allowed no runs on a single hit, struck out two and walked on over his three innings of service. Austin Pittman took the loss for the Oilers, allowing eight runs (five earned) on 10 hits, struck out two and walked two in four innings. Colton Slank took the mound in the fifth, allowed five runs (one earned) on six hits, struck out four in three innings.

The Oilers went back to the bullpen to bring in Luke Daugherty, who closed out the night for the Oilers. Daugherty allowed no hits and struck out two in his only inning.

Both teams abandoned scoring opportunities as Hopkinsville stranded a total of 13 runners on base, while Owensboro left eight.

The Hoppers are now on a 3 win streak as they improve to 10-4 and lead the league by a half game over the 10-5 Marion Bobcats. The Hoppers will need the momentum going into tonight’s contest. The Hoppers host Marion tonight with first pitch at 7:05.

The Oilers travel back to Owensboro to host Madisonville.
