‘Breds Take Rubber Game over UT Martin | Murray

The Murray State Baseball Team won a weekend series against UT Martin, finishing off the Skyhawks with a 7-0 victory Saturday at Reagan Field.  Bryan Babin pitched seven shutout innings, struck out six batters and gave up five hits and two walks on the way to his third win of the season.

The Racers and Skyhawks each had a tough time getting started, as neither team could get going offensively until the bottom of the sixth, when the floodgates came open.

Left-fielder Ty Stetson led off the inning with a single to first, and shortstop Travis Isaak followed the hit with a home run.  First-baseman Mike Kozlowski, Third baseman Luke Daugherty, second baseman Dylan Wheeler, Rick Linton, and center-fielder Paul Ritzheimer all also crossed the plate on the way to a six-hit, seven-run inning.

Will Handlin relieved Babin in the seventh scored a pair of hits and a strikeout.

The ‘Breds won only their second conference game of the season in the first game of Friday’s twin bill, 4-2, but Martin got revenge in the nightcap with a 4-3 win to split the evening.

Murray State now sits at 16-17 on the season, 3-6 in the Ohio Valley Conference and will take on Evansville in a midweek game on Wednesday.
