Lindsey Wilson Blanked by Union 6-0 in

NAIA Softball Championship Opener

Blue Raiders come up with just two hits in shutout loss against Union (Tenn.) in the firswt game of pool play

GULF SHORES, Ala. – Lindsey Wilson faces an uphill battle in the NAIA Softball National Championship after starting out pool play 0-1 after a 6-0 loss against Union (Tenn.) on Thursday at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.

Blue Raider third baseman Emily Priar delivered the only two hits in the loss, finishing 2-for-3, while the Bulldogs made their early run with the help of two solo home runs.

Third baseman Katie Davis led off the second inning with a home run and right fielder Shelby Lamb homered in the two-run third. Lamb finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of RBIs.

Union pitcher Brooke Thomas was the story of the game, allowing just the two hits with six strikeouts in 6-2/3 innings. Lindsey Wilson starter Cara Law took the loss, allowing three runs on four hits with three strikeouts in three innings of work.

Lauren Seibert finished the game for the Blue Raiders in the circle, allowing three runs on four hits as well with two strikeouts.

Committing two errors in the field didn’t help Lindsey Wilson’s cause as a run came home on a wild throw to third after a triple and another run scored from third on a Seibert wild pitch.

Through seven games in the NAIA Championship, the Blue Raiders have been shut out just once before, to eventual champion Simon Fraser (B.C.) in 2010.

Lindsey Wilson is back in action at 1 p.m. CT on Friday against Lubbock Christian (Texas) in the second day of pool play at the NAIA Championship.
